This little library is a tribute to Sandy Maynard, recently retired as the cook at Beal School, from her four book-loving grandkids. Known affectionately to Beal students as “Cook,” Maynard is legendary not only for her amazing baked goods, but also for the way she took special care of teachers and any student who needed a little TLC. Her family sought to not only honor her four decades of service with the Springfield Public Schools, but also to continue her longtime support for students and reading.

"Our first LFL was in an antique aluminum cooler set on a wooden table. We live next to a large park and there are a lot of people from a diverse neighborhood who walk by. After a year, the cooler developed a leak. So, when Leslie retired, her first project was to design and build one that would not leak and with windows that matched our house. Judy reads about 3 books a week and is the librarian. We are thrilled at all the neighborhood readers."

"This Little Free Library was installed in September 2019. I read about the Little Free Library movement and decided to build one mostly from leftover materials that were cluttering our garage. This location is close to the Talmage School. Walking 200 feet through the woods at the end of Winding Lane will put you at the rear of the schoolyard."
